End of July Newsletter

July was a wild ride for me and my music writing. So much has happened it’s crazy! I completed a new piece based on a song from my childhood, I was given new opportunities to provide musical service to my local city, participated in a documentary, and composed for two new short films! I also am launching the first competition for Staffpad. Read more about it below! Thank you all so much for your support and I’ll continue to grow and make more music for you all!

I created a new symphonic piece that is a little bit interesting. It it a full-string ensemble with a Horn in F and Flute Duet. This piece was inspired by a popular 80’s pop song a porcelain doll played when I was a toddler. I wrote this piece to best portray it’s emotion, while still sticking to my unique sense of writing style.

I’m the activities coordinator for the BYU-Idaho Video Production Society and we had a wonderful oppertunity to make a documentary of our time working with VPS and went around the school asking about the reception of the society and encouraging more to join us. VPS’s oppertunities has offered me rich experience into composing for short films and understanding the industry.

My Beloved OST

Another project I had the wonderful opportunity to work on is an animation short film called “The Escape”. While this film was debuted and finished with production, it has not quite been uploaded to the public yet. I encourage you to check the link below regularly for information on the publication of this short film. As soon as it is published by the director, I will immediately provide a link on my site!

Staffpad Competition Submission

On July 2nd of 2023, I was invited by the City of Rexburg to debut a piece I wrote called The Veterans Memorial, a Horn Quintet that I had to rearrange to be playable for an eclectic brass ensemble. I am grateful I was given this opportunity to participate in this event and truly happy to have been allowed to provide a musical service to our military veterans and offer my respect to them. My piece certainly moved the audience and that brought warmth to my heart.

This past spring semester I was given another opportunity to share my composing skills with an aspiring film director and together we worked to make his short film My Beloved come to life. The musical score utilizes a unique tribal blend of instruments to add tension and disturbed ambiance. Check out the video here! I am an avid user of Staffpad, an incredibly convenient and useful notation software for music. I have long wanted to see more widespread appeal, and with some discussion of fellow admins in the Staffpad user group, we are making the steps to make Staffpad more widely known. Not many people truly know what Staffpad is capable of, the admins of the Staffpad Facebook Group are hosting the first Staffpad exclusive competition to encourage more widespread appeal for the software and to show the world what the software can do. This first competition will be themed around unique, digital soundscapes. If you are interested in being a part of this competition, click the link below!
